Auckland driver Angus Fogg put together a hot qualifying lap to grab pole in the fourth round of the national V8s motor racing championship series at Timaru today.
His time of one minute 06.000 seconds on the 2.4km Levels raceway saw him edge out his main rivals in an extremely tight contest.
Pukekohe driver Paul Manuell qualified second in 1min 06.127sec, ahead of Hamilton's Kayne Scott on 1min 06.162sec, another Aucklander Tim Edgell's 1min 06.205sec and the 1min 06.225sec posted by Nelson's John McIntyre.
Today's racing was contested in overcast, windy conditions plus the odd rain shower but Fogg, driving a Ford Falcon, is nonplussed with the forecast for tomorrow which predicts more rain.
"We'll have a good battle on our hands either way. We're in the best possible position on the front row with Holden driver Paul Manuell alongside going into Timaru's right-left opening corner combination.
"It's interesting -- and good for the series -- that Paul's in second in a Commodore.
"It's very close at the top and all we can do is put our best foot forward tomorrow. I'm looking for two race wins."
