Kiwi Wade Cunningham has made a positive start to his Menards Infiniti Pro Series motor racing campaign in the United States.
He has qualified on the fourth row of the grid for the opening race of the series at Florida's Homestead-Miami Speedway today.
Cunningham, 20, set the third-fastest lap time in the third practice session at the oval circuit and was then seventh fastest in the two-lap qualifying shootout despite encountering a fuel pressure problem.
At 28.8448 seconds and an average speed of 298.27km/h his qualifying time was just 0.7974s and 6.30km/h behind that of polesetter Travis Gregg, of the US.
Cunningham said he was pretty happy with the way his debut in the series was going.
"We've just been steadily working away on the car all weekend, just making me more comfortable with it, basically," he said.
