KEY POINTS:
Team Kiwi Racing (TKR) will know by this morning whether they will have a car ready on the grid for the fifth round of the Australian V8 Supercar at the weekend.
TKR principal David John had specialists, including an electrician and a mechanic, flown to Sydney from Auckland yesterday to help other Sydney-based staff work overnight to have a car ready for scrutinising and the race.
John, however, denied that the car, if ready, would be driven by Australian Adam Macrow, as speculated yesterday.
"I can tell you it won't be Macrow, we have two guys with helmets in hand ready for the race, but it's definitely not Macrow," John said last night. "We have to make sure we have the car ready before we can say who'll drive it."
John said Macrow drove for the team and did well when Paul Radisich was out injured earlier this year.
He said the staff would work on the leased BA Ford Falcon last night to try to upgrade it to comply with V8 Supercar specifications.
The team would know by 9am today if it would be ready.
John said he was humbled by several calls from the motoring industry in New Zealand yesterday with offers of help.
Pukekohe mechanic David Mills, from Paneltech 2006 Ltd, was one of the staff flown to Sydney yesterday.
"No problem, we'll have it set by the scrutinising time [this afternoon] if we have the parts," Mills said.
John said a mammoth effort was needed to have the car ready. "They will be working non-stop tonight. We'll give it our best shot to get to the grid."
TKR's regular driver Radisich quit this week following Ford Performance Racing's unilateral termination of its engineering contract with TKR.
