KEY POINTS:
New Zealand rider Josh Coppins clung on to fifth place when the world MX1 motocross title was decided in Faenza, Italy this morning (NZ time).
Coppins managed 10th and third-placed finishes to compile 446 points at the completion of the 15-round series, just two points ahead of German Max Nagl, who charged home by winning both races today.
Italian David Philippaerts did enough to claim the title, placing third and ninth today to finish with 509 points, 14 clear of Belgian Steve Ramon, who was 11th and second.
