V8 Supercar champion James Courtney says a mix-up over wet-weather tyres at Bathurst yesterday has embarrassed the sport on a fog-hit practice day at Mt Panorama.
Only two of the three scheduled practice sessions could be run, with the final session scrubbed because of heavy fog on the top of the circuit, leaving Ford youngsters Tim Slade, Shane van Gisbergen and James Moffatt as the fastest drivers on the day thanks to opening-session times.
But before the final decision was made to can the day's final hit-out confusion reigned over the supply of wet-weather tyres available to teams for the weekend's racing.
Two batches of the tyres are available to the teams for the weekend, with one set posting times almost 3s quicker than the other.
Teams were upset with the initial allocation and V8 Supercars had to scramble to re-allocate the tyres to ensure no teams were disadvantaged.
