New Zealander Nick Cassidy has finished sixth in the prestigious Suzuka 1000 race in Japan over the weekend.
The Lexus Super GT driver was locked in a battle towards the back end of the top 10 for most of the race but managed to pick up a couple of positions, including that of former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button, late in the race to recapture second place in the championship standings along with co-driver Ryo Hirakawa.
The race was won by Kosuke Matsuura and Bertrand Baguette in the Nakajima Racing Epson Honda.
Fellow Kiwi Jono Lester finished eighth in the GT300 class.
There are two rounds remaining at Thailand in October and Motegi in November, when all the weight handicapping is removed and Cassidy expects to be more competitive, like he was at the start of the season when he won the opening round.
