KEY POINTS:
New Zealand driver Jonny Reid has a battle on his hands to close the gap on the leaders after setting the sixth-fastest time in official practice for tomorrow's eighth round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport in Mexico.
Reid was four-tenths of a second behind Britain, with Switzerland, Ireland, the Netherlands and South Africa rounding out the top five. Little more than two seconds separated the field of 22.
New Zealand team manager John Sears said the car wasn't "a million miles off the pace" and some minor tweaking would set them up for today's qualifying.
"It's not going to be easy, but we need to take the fight to the two countries ahead of us in the championship [Switzerland and France] and we're confident we have the strategy and the speed," Sears said.
Reid had a light work-out yesterday, completing only 20 laps. With just three rounds remaining in this season's 10-round championship Black Beauty is third on the points table, 20 points down on Switzerland and 10 points behind France.
Qualifying starts today with the Sprint Race (6am) and Feature Race (10am) tomorrow.
