LONDON - The Dubai-based A1 Grand Prix series has postponed races scheduled for Indonesia on January 15 after the death of the Gulf emirate's ruler.
The self-styled World Cup of Motorsport is the brainchild of Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, nephew of the Crown Prince of Dubai.
A1 organisers said in a statement that they were working with the Indonesian authorities to find an appropriate replacement date for the seventh round of the series at Sentul racetrack.
"While difficult logistically, we felt it important to observe a respectable period of mourning for this beloved family member of our founder, president and chairman, Sheikh Maktoum," said A1 chief executive Tony Teixeira.
Dubai ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al-Maktoum died in Australia on Wednesday.
