Ducati's defending champion Troy Bayliss finished third overall in the sixth round of the world championship at Monza yesterday.
Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga won both races from pole position while Bayliss finished second and third.
British Honda rider James Toseland increased his lead in the series to a total of 229 points from Haga's 194.
Suzuki's Max Biaggi slipped to third on 191, Bayliss fourth on 164 and fellow Aussie Troy Corser fifth for Yamaha on 135.
Haga was delighted with his performances: "I'm very happy to win both races, I never won here before today."
Haga won race two after coming through from a sluggish start to win by a comfortable margin.
