Tony Benshoof is set to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for establishing the highest recorded speed on a luge.
Benshoof, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, set the record last October 16 as the US team prepared for the World Cup season.
He blasted down the track in Park City, Utah, at 139.34km/h, eclipsing the former mark of 137.38 set on May 1, 1982, by Norway's Asle Strand.
Benshoof was 17th in the men's singles in his Olympic debut at Salt Lake City in February.
