The New Zealand Under 20 rugby side have opted to replace a flanker with a midfielder.
Chiefs midfielder Anton Lienert-Brown has been called into the squad for the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Italy, replacing opensider Mitch Karpik, who sustained an ankle injury in the weekend's 32-29 win against Argentina.
New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson said: "Mitch has made a huge contribution to the team during the tournament so far, playing in both of our games. We're very disappointed to have lost him to injury."
"However, it will be good to see Anton return to the squad. He will be a great addition to the team, having played a key leadership role in the successful Oceania series last month."
Lienert-Brown was recalled to Chiefs duty after the Oceania Junior Championships to cover the midfield for the Super Rugby franchise, but with the imminent return for Sonny Bill Williams to action this weekend, the Chiefs must feel they have enough cover there now. He will be leaving for Italy later today.
