Frank Endacott is a good bet to hang on to his job as Kiwi coach for two more years through to the World Cup, with the New Zealand Rugby League Board tonight likely to defer its decision on whether to advertise the post.
There are two factions on the board - those who want Endacott's contract, which expires on December 31, rolled over, and those who want the job opened to allcomers.
But rather than hold a bunfight, it looks as if the league will decide to put off any decision until its meeting at the end of January, by which time backroom lobbying should have resolved things and probably for the incumbent, given the level of support he enjoys.
The position of general manager to succeed Jennifer Haydock is one that will be determined, with 30 applicants having been cut to a shortlist of seven.
