The New Zealand crews have struggled at the last chance Olympic qualifying rowing regatta in Lucerne.
The men's lightweight four have finished third in their heat and face a repechage tomorrow to make the final while the men's eight have been beaten by the USA with only three boats competing.
Duncan Grant from the lightweight four says not winning the heat has cost them.
He says it would have given them a rest day tomorrow, so at least they know exactly where they stand.
The eight finished nine seconds behind the USA and must beat the Americans on Wednesday to book their place at the Olympics.
