Olympic gold medallist Lisa Carrington stamped her mark on the K1 200m at the first of the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Szeged, Hungary last night (NZT).
Carrington dominated her heat and semifinal races, winning both convincingly and clocking the fastest time of the day in the semifinal. Despite paddling into a head wind, Carrington recorded a time 40.495 to finish half a second ahead of Russian Natalia Podolskaya.
She will now prepare for tonight's final (8pm NZT) in the distance in which she won her gold medal in London.
Earlier in the day, Carrington won the B final in the K1 500m, a new event and one in which she is still finding her feet, giving her a top 10 ranking for the distance this year.
The head wind continued to hold back times throughout the day, but the Kiwi team were particularly pleased with the performance of newly-formed K2 pairing Teneale Hatton and Rachael Dodwell.
