Ben Fouhy has taken the bronze medal in the K1 1000 at the world kayaking championships in Szeged, Hungary this morning.
He missed out on the gold by centimetres in lane five with less than point one of a second between first, second and third on the line.
Swedish bolter Markus Oscarsson came home to win in lane nine, pipping Fouhy's northern hemisphere training partner Brit Tim Brabants in lane three.
A steady-angled head wind meant higher lanes won a surprising number of medals.
Fouhy stood to attention on the dais, with the music from "Rocky" belting out of the local speakers on a blazing hot day.
Several of his family and friends were among the 100,000 strong crowd in a country where kayaking is the national sport.
