The New Zealand men's team beat Australia for the first time at the Oceania karate championships in Vanuatu.
Leading 2-1 heading into the fourth fight, New Zealand captain Tyron Edwards clinched the result with a 6-3 win, meaning the team did not have to contest the final fight.
It was a double success for New Zealand with the junior team also beating Australia to win gold in the children's team Kumite.
New Zealand won 54 medals in total - 23 gold, eight silver and 23 bronze - at the championships, which involved five countries.
