New Plymouth teenager Marc Williams is the latest Kiwi motor racing star set for an international career. Williams has just been offered a contract to compete in the 2008 Indy Pro Series in the US with the Target Chip Ganassi team. Williams, 18, will join fellow Kiwi Scott Dixon at Ganassi's team after catching the eye of Ganassi himself when he breezed through his rookie test and garnered two top 10 finishes in last year's IPS.
Top karters turn out
New Zealand's world-ranked karting stars are taking part in the annual CIK trophy in Hamilton this weekend. Ryan Grant, Jason Lee and Daniel Bray each featured in the SKUSA SuperNationals meeting in Las Vegas last year. The event is the only truly international one on the New Zealand calendar and attracts the cream of Kiwi karting talent, plus some of the top drivers from across the Tasman.
Hamilton hanging on
Formula One runner-up Lewis Hamilton has signed a $20 million deal to stay with McLaren until 2012. This will bring Hamilton's total time with McLaren to 15 years.
Britek pulls out
The Australian Rally Championships have had a setback with the withdrawal of Britek Rallye Sport. This leaves the ARC with only one official factory team, Toyota. MIDGET WORLD SERIES The Midget World Series starts on Wednesday at Western Springs, the first of four meetings. New Zealand is the defending champion and goes into the 30-lap feature race as favourite.
