Browne retires
A chance to farewell Nicola Browne this weekend, the longtime New Zealand international retiring after a stellar career. Browne holds the Northern Districts women's record for most matches, runs and wickets. She played two tests, 125 ODIs and 54 T20 games for New Zealand. Browne realised over the Christmas break that the time was right "for new experiences in life and opportunities to grow and learn in different environments". She is wearing a range of major events hats at present, including work relating to the World Cup and the under 20 Fifa World Cup this year. She'll finish up with 50-over games against Canterbury at Seddon Park today and tomorrow .
A running joke
Brendon McCullum was able to poke fun at the four run-outs which proved so damaging for New Zealand in Thursday night's ODI in Hamilton. Noting that those out included Dan Vettori, Luke Ronchi and brother Nathan, along with Corey Anderson, the skipper pointed out they were three of the oldest players in the team. "There's talk of who was going to be in what vans heading to Auckland. Some of those guys might be running - they might not make it all the way though."
Lee calls it quits
Former Australian quick Brett Lee has called time on his career and will retire from T20 cricket at the end of this summer's Big Bash League. The 38-year-old quit international cricket three years ago and the Sydney Sixers is his final stint in the game. His first game in the shortest version was Australia's match against New Zealand at Eden Park in 2005.
