KEY POINTS:
After the appalling weather which had played havoc with weekend sport, the golfers had better luck on Monday afternoon.
In one of the feature clashes of the Auckland SS premier boys' competition, St Kentigern College beat Mt Albert Grammar in a match which was not decided until the last putt.
St Kentigern dominated with two wins and a loss in the first two matches but they did not seal it until the ninth hole (all matches are played over nine holes) at the Remuera Golf Club when Oscar Sachs (on a 1.5 handicap) holed a short putt to seal a third win for his school.
St Kentigern won three of the four matches to take the honours 19-17.
TRIATHLON
Diocesan had a day to savour at the team tag championship with victories in the senior and intermediate races and a second placing in the junior event.
Honours were shared in the boys' and mixed races at Farm Cove after the decision to proceed was made despite the threat of bad weather.
The only worry was the strong wind which made life difficult but did not dampen enthusiasm for the competitors in the 164 teams from 27 schools.
WAKA AMA
More than 130 crews from 27 schools will make a splash on the waters of the Orakei Basin on Saturday in the 11th Auckland SS senior regatta.
The six-person teams race over a straight course of around 300m with 70-plus races needed to find the winners in a quick-fire day's racing. While the races will be keenly contested, the emphasis remains on participation with many students introduced to the sport each year.
The waka ama has long been used by Polynesians as a means of transport. The ama (outrigger) on the left side of the waka (canoe) balances the craft and aids its speed through the water.
Racing for the 134 teams begins at 8.45am with the prize giving expected at 4pm.
