Botany Downs Squid got two goals and three assists from Southern Districts visiting player Jacobus Van Leuwen as they skated to an easy 9-3 win over third-placed North Shore Vikings in Auckland Premier ice hockey last night.
Steve Fahey and Jeff Bonazzo scored two goals each through the second and third periods, and Squid goalkeeper Shawn Cozurok turned in a fine performance allowing only three goals on 28 North Shore shots.
Waitakere Astros have closed the gap on Squid with a good 5-3 win over Avondale Thunder at Paradice Botany Downs, led by two goals from Baden May. Matt Smith, Brian Speirs and Mike Luggen scored the other Waitakere goals.
Rangitoto Rangers continued a fine run through the senior competition going into fourth place with a good 7-1 win over third placed Manu-Wai.
Robert Chamberlain led Rangers with a hat-trick and Markus Ceppler scored twice.
