Kiwi combination Alan Chan and John Moody were forced to withdraw from the men's doubles semifinals at the US$50,000 (NZ$69,340) New Zealand Open badminton tournament in Auckland yesterday after Chan was hampered by an injury.
They were the only New Zealanders in the semis but withdrew after Chan suffered a bruised ankle three days ago.
Moody will play in Australia next week before representing New Zealand at next month's Sudirman Cup in Scotland.
Meanwhile, the men's singles final will be fought out between two unseeded players.
Former world No 1 Choong Hann Wong (Malaysia) beat defending champion and tournament second seed Tsuen Seng Lee (Malaysia) 21-11 18-21 21-12.
His opponent in the final, Andre Tedjono (Indonesia), easily beat seventh seed Kay Bin Yeoh (Malaysia).
Women's top seed Hongyan Pi (France) was knocked out by 2004 Olympic medallist Mi Zhou (Hong Kong) in three games.
Zhou will play fourth seed Chie Umezu (Japan), who beat second seed Pui Yin Yip (Hong Kong), in the women's final.
