A massive crowd gathered at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Tauranga to farewell John Drake this afternoon.
The former All Blacks prop, turned commentator, died suddenly on the weekend, aged 49.
Rugby commentator Andrew Love said this afternoon that the church held over 800 people, but they were expecting the congregation to spill outside the church doors.
The funeral will be broadcast on Sky TV's Rugby Channel at 8.30pm, with the broadcast available to all Sky Digital subscribers.
