Australia beat New Zealand 3-1 in their International Festival of Hockey men's match in Melbourne tonight.
The world No 1 team, who were beaten by the Black Sticks in Auckland last weekend, made a flying start with two goals from Kieran Govers and another from Aaron Kleinschmidt giving Australia a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.
New Zealand improved in the second quarter and won a couple of penalty corners they could not convert.
They pulled a goal back just before the end of the third quarter with a sizzling penalty corner shot from Kane Russell, but couldn't close the gap further.
New Zealand, who drew their opening game against Malaysia 1-1 24 hours earlier, will play world No 6 India in their third round robin game on Saturday night before finals day on Sunday.
