The first round of play-off matches will be played on Thursday. Heavy rain yesterday morning forced the cancellation of the second day of Champions Trophy matches at the North Harbour Hockey Stadium and led tournament organisers to use today - originally planned as a rest day - to hopefully get back on track.
While disappointed at the disruption, Hockey New Zealand chief executive Hilary Poole said the washout was unlikely to have any bearing on plans to host future tournaments there.
"The FIH have been monitoring the weather patterns and rainfall and concede there was nothing that could be done in light of the amount of rain that fell," said Poole. "They understand that if we had had a clear 30-minute break we could have played.
"The situation was pretty much what we expected with the rainfall we had. We are fortunate we have three rest days built into the tournament schedule and provided we get all matches played on Monday and Tuesday, we will be back on schedule with Wednesday as a rest day.
Poole said all pre-purchased tickets were transferable - but not refundable. "There are five other opportunities for ticketholders to transfer their tickets. After the crowd we had on Saturday we now realise we can take more people and will make use of that to accommodate extra people next weekend."
