Hockey: New Zealand lose series to Pakistan

The New Zealand men's hockey team will be playing for pride when they meet Pakistan in Auckland today in the final match of the four-test series.

Pakistan took out the series with a 1-0 win in the third test in Hamilton yesterday, having drawn 2-all in the first test and won the second 1-0 at Albany on Thursday.

Kashif Jawwad scored the only goal thirty minutes into the first half.

New Zealand showed strong defence but failed to capitalise on opportunities for attack created by their forwards.

Pakistan was temporarily down to ten men in the last minutes of the first half when Kamran Ashraf was yellow carded for dissent.

In the second half, Wellington's Umesh Parag and Canterbury's Andrew Hastie were brought on but New Zealand still could not penetrate Pakistan's solid defence.

Today's match will be played at at Lloyd Elsmore Park in Pakuranga, and the Kiwis begin a three-test series against Argentina tomorrow.
