Malaysia bounced back from last night's 8-0 thrashing at the hands of New Zealand to draw today's junior men's hockey test 2-2 in Dunedin today.
The Junior Black Sticks started off in the best way possible, Jared Jones gathering a through ball in the circle and getting past the goalie in the sixth minute.
The game was played at a great pace, but mistakes plagued both teams, although Malaysia managed to level the scores in the 29th minute when Nor Faez's drag flick hit the back of the net.
With the scores tied 1-1 at halftime, Malaysia came out firing after the break and were awarded their fifth penalty corner in the 43rd minute.
Faez grabbed his second goal of with another well-placed drag flick.
Scores were tied in the 55th minute when Jones found the back of the net, and despite both teams pushing hard, neither could break the deadlock.
The four-test series concludes with matches on Monday and Tuesday.
