Hockey Hawke's Bay is making a million-dollar bid to become the country's premier hockey destination.
It plans a complete makeover of the region's largest hockey facility, the Legends Hockey Stadium, at Park Island, Napier, so the venue can host more national and international matches.
It also intends to set up a professional coaching academy and is aiming to have both proposals in place by March next year.
The stadium facelift will include laying down a new international-standard water turf, a permanent 350-spectator stand, a video platform, video-analysis equipment and two electronic scoreboards and clocks.
The practice turf will be resurfaced and the main buildings upgraded.
