KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand women's bid for Olympic hockey qualification has been boosted by China's gold medal performance at last week's Asian Games.
The gold means automatic qualification through the Asian Continental allocation.
However, as China had already qualified as the Olympic host nation, their success at the Asian Games has opened up another quota position.
As a result of the Black Sticks women's present world rankings, Oceania has been awarded this additional qualification berth for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, thereby greatly improving their chance of qualifying.
