The New Zealand men's hockey team will playoff for third at the Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia.
The Black Sticks have lost 3-2 to Australia in a virtual semi-final to see their title defence come to an end.
New Zealand led 1-0 at halftime but gave up two goals early in the second-half.
The Black Sticks will face South Korea in the third/fourth playoff after the Koreans drew two-all with Pakistan.
"It was disappointing not to come away with a win tonight. We hung in there in the second half, but conceding three goals put us on the back foot and although we rallied together it was always going to be difficult to come back," said head coach Colin Batch.
