The Black Sticks put in a much improved first half to seal a 5-1 win over Ireland in their second Olympic hockey qualifier in Auckland.
Having let in two goals in the opening 35 minutes of their first game against Great Britain, this time it was New Zealand that led 2-0 at halftime after Lizzy Igasan and Kayla Sharland scored.
The Kiwis conceded a goal early in the second spell but made sure of victory through Niniwa Roberts-Lang and two goals to Jaimee Provan.
The Black Sticks next game is against the Ukraine on Monday.
