The Black Sticks suffered their first defeat at the Champions Challenge women's hockey tournament in Virginia Beach, United States today losing 0-1 to South Africa.
Tarryn Bright scored in the sixth minute which eventually secured the victory and propelled South Africa into Sunday's (NZ time) final.
Previously the Black Sticks had recorded a draw and two wins at the six-nation tournament, but can still make the final if they beat Japan in their final pool match on Saturday.
