The Black Sticks have been thrashed 6-nil by Argentina in the first of a two match hockey series at the Lloyd Elsmore Stadium in Auckland.

Argentina proved why they are the World Champions with a classy performance demonstrating superb precision.

Three goals in the first half from the visitors sealed New Zealand's fate, and when Argentina scored straight after halftime the home side had only pride to play for.

The Black Sticks will be looking to make up for the huge loss when the two sides meet again on Sunday.
