Herald sports writer Terry Maddaford was last night honoured at the Sir Terry McLean National Sports Journalism Awards Dinner in Auckland.
Maddaford, a former Herald sports editor and longstanding contributor to the paper, was made a life member of the New Zealand Sports Journalists Association. Maddaford now covers soccer and hockey for the Herald and manages the paper's Future Stars of Sport Awards.
Herald on Sunday reporter Dylan Cleaver won the Avanti Award for Sports News Print.
Eric Young, of Sky Sport magazine, was named sports journalist of the year.
Young also won the award for magazine feature writing and the award for opinion writing.
New Zealand Press Association chief photographer Ross Setford was also made a life member of the Sports Journalists Association. Journalist and author Bob Howitt won the SPARC Lifetime Contribution to Sport through Journalism award.
Aaron Lawton of the Sunday News won the New Zealand Herald DJ Cameron Young Writer's Award.
Photosport photographer Andrew Cornaga won the award for best sports photography portfolio, and Martin Hunter, of Getty Images and the Sunday Star-Times won the award for the best sports photograph.
