To clear things up, surely you all remember John Goehrke? He's the unknown American who seized his moment to bet his dating future on the New England Patriots making an unlikely comeback in Super Bowl LI against Atlanta in 2017.
The Atlanta Falcons were up by 25 points late against the Patriots and Bouchard was ready to call it.
But Goehrke — then just a random sports fan with a Twitter account — went for the Hail Mary of all Hail Marys by asking Bouchard if she'd go out with him should New England miraculously finish on top.
Long story short, quarterback Tom Brady did what only Tom Brady can and the Pats won 34-28. And, much like Batman, Goehrke became the hero we needed but probably didn't deserve.
The pair caught an NBA game in New York for their first date and while Goehrke went AWOL for much of the rest of the year, he made a comeback to rival that of the 2017 Super Bowl-winning Pats team by wedging himself back into Bouchard's social media channels in December.
The pair were spotted at a beach in Miami together shortly after and then their romance came full circle when they attended the Super Bowl between Philadelphia and New England earlier this month.
Guys around the world living their lives vicariously through Goehrke cheered like never before. One year on and still going strong — he was in, wasn't he?
Before kick-off Bouchard and Goehrke conducted a filmed Q&A using the Canadian NFL Twitter account where they opened up about their relationship — before leaving fans on the edge of a cliff.
Just when it appeared fans were going to get the answer they all wanted to hear, Bouchard pulled the pin on the live Q&A, cheekily shutting it down as she was pretending to reveal if she and Goehrke were dating.
Nearly two weeks on, it looks like we finally have our answer to that question.
Taking to Instagram to share pictures of her Sports Illustrated shoot, one caption revealed Bouchard was "single", which she said made Valentine's Day a lot less enjoyable.
Then there was this Twitter reply to American skier Lindsey Vonn, who's in PyeongChang competing in the Winter Olympics.
Maybe it's just a ploy to throw us all off the scent. To convince us we need to give up on the idea of history's greatest romance while they continue seeing each other away from prying eyes.
We really hope it is, otherwise Bouchard's revelation has destroyed our faith in using the internet to find love forever.
Adding intrigue to Bouchard's "single" confession is less than a day earlier, Goehrke retweeted Sports Illustrated's video showing off the World No. 116's work in front of the camera.
If old mate really was blindsided by Bouchard's Insta post, perusing the rest of her profile won't help ease the pain.
Goehrke might not want to be bombarded with reminders of what he (apparently) can't have, but Bouchard's dad was pretty pleased with the way his daughter's photos turned out.
Although admitting it's weird to see your child half naked, he was a fan of the "tastefully" done shoot.
