Football - 1967 Scotland 3-2
Scotland labelled themselves 'Unofficial World Champions' after beating England (who won the World Cup earlier) at Wembley in 1967.
The match was, uniquely then in the annals of Wembley clashes, about something more than the Home Internationals, it was also a European Championship qualifier. Scotland won the game, but, they lost the "war" since England qualified at their expense.
1871 - First rugby international
Scotland once were the best rugby nation in the world, after beating England 1-0 in the first ever test. Played at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh on 27 March 1871, the English wore all white with a red rose on their shirts, while Scotland sported brown shirts with a thistle and white cricket flannels.
Scotland came out on top two tries to one but since a points-scoring system had not been decided on pre-match, only a Scottish conversion counted towards to score - giving them the 1-0 victory.
Darts - 1989 Wilson over Bristow
Fife-born darts great Jocky Wilson secured his second BDO title with a famous victory over Eric Bristow - stopping a impressive comeback from the Englishman. Bristow had recovered from 5-0 down to find himself at 5-4 and 2-2 in the tenth set. But Wilson held his nerve, only just, to claim the win. Wilson had already become one of the first sports people to have a computer game created after them - Jocky Wilson's Darts Challenge.
Robert Barclay Allardice
The greatest pedestrian of all time, Captain Barclay became a celebrity in the early 19th century after walking 1000 miles in 1000 hours - completing a bet for 1000 guineas. He finished the 42-year ordeal with under 45 minutes to spare. It's a victory over England for that fact that he walked away with the equivalent to some £5 million in modern terms.

1991 Rugby World Cup semifinal - 9-6
It was a time of strained Anglo-Scottish relations, of resentment over the Poll Tax experiment north of the border and antipathy towards many of Margaret Thatcher's policies drafted down in Westminster. And then, arriving in Edinburgh for the semi-finals of the 1991 World Cup, came England, led by that perceived embodiment of all southern arrogance, Will Carling.
It ended in a gruelling 9-6 England victory and the single best-remembered incident was a missed penalty in front of the posts by the normally metronomic Gavin Hastings.
Football - 1961 England 9-3
9-3 sounds more like a rugby score than a football score and to this date it remains England's biggest ever win in the fixture. England led 3-0 after 20 minutes thanks to two goals from Jimmy Greaves and one from Bobby Robson.
Scotland pulled two goals back quickly after half time but Bryan Douglas and Bobby Smith restored the three goal lead before Scotland pulled another goal back on 75 minutes to make it 5-3.
Any hopes of a Scotland comeback were quickly quashed by a quick brace from Johnny Haynes before Jimmy Greaves completed his hat trick and Bobby Smith made it 9-3 with five minutes to go.
Football - Euro 96 - England 2-0
The annual match between England and Scotland was halted in 1989, so the 1996 meeting during the group stages of the European Championship was a special occasion. A dramatic and memorable match at Wembley saw England win 2-0 and Paul Gascoigne scored one of the most famous goals in the history of the England national team. Watch it here.

2011 Rugby World Cup pool game - 16-12
Up against a storm, a Scotland team possessed and just about the most partisan 'neutral' stadium in sporting history (Eden Park), England got the job done in their 2011 Rugby World Cup pool match thanks to a 77th-minute try from Chris Ashton.
England went on to get bundled out by the French in the quarterfinal while Scotland didn't make it out of the pool stages.
