"Historically, North Harbour have been really tough opposition in this event so it was good to get that win. We are looking forward to our break and we'll get back into it tomorrow when we take on the semifinalists from last year ago. It would be good to keep this momentum.''
Walsh nominated three players James Hamilton, Landyn Edwards and Sam Davis as the heroes of the effort so far but said there was a long way to go for his young team.
Hamilton, who was the leading individual at the event two years ago when Bay of Plenty won at the Manawatu Golf Club, was full of confidence after their flawless start.
"We are playing really well, nothing really special but we are just playing solid golf without too many mistakes,'' he said.
"We are all about the team and its strange being the oldest this time around as I was the youngest last time.
"But this is a stronger team that the one I was part of that won the title.''
Taranaki have enjoyed a dream run and have a chance for a rare win at the Interprovincial event.
"It was hard having the afternoon off,'' Murray Martin said. "But the boys came through and showed some great character. We have got ourselves in good position and we want to carry it on from here.
"We have Auckland tomorrow morning so after their start I know they will be tough.''
Auckland, the second most successful team in the 60-year history of the event with 12 wins, lost to Canterbury 3-2 and are second to last on the Division One leaderboard.
Auckland No 1 Ryan Fox, who is trying to win his first Toro Interprovincial title before he turns professional, was beaten 1up by Keelan Kilpatrick in what was the defining point of the match.
"After a loss yesterday we needed to knock off Auckland and to back that up against Northland was really pleasing,'' Kilpatrick said.
"I played really solid in my match with Foxy - I made some clutch putts on the back nine that were the difference.''
Kilpatrick said that all his team-mates would love to perform for the Canterbury colours after a tough year.
"Any time you put on the red and black uniform it is a proud moment and even more so this year - so that is added motivation.''
Defending champions Wellington were upset by Northland by 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 in round three but bounced back this afternoon to defeat Manawatu-Wanganui by the same margin.
Like Fox, Wellington No 1 Ben Campbell was humbled by his Northland rival Brad Bonnington 2 and 1.
"It was great to beat a player of his quality,'' Bonnington said.
"I played really well on the front nine with a hot start and just hung out coming home. It is a great feeling.
"It has been good fun for us beating a couple of the big guns [Auckland and Wellington] and we hope we can carry on playing well. It is good to see these young fellas stand up.''
