Struggling Kiwi Lydia Ko is nine shots off the lead at the Women's British Open after a first round lacking memorable moments.
The world No.5 managed one early birdie, followed immediately by two bogeys and played to par for the rest of a one-over 73, leaving her sharing 95th place at the major tournament. Playing partner Michelle Wie was a contrast, rattling in nine birdies to claim the outright lead at the Kingbarns Golf Links in Fife, Scotland.
High-profile American Wie's 64 placed her a shot clear of Korea's In-Kyung Kim.
Ko is in danger of missing the cut for a second straight week, having fallen short at the Scottish Open in Troon.
She was solid with her long game on Thursday but missed several medium-range putts to leave her with a fight to end what is a modest run of results in five previous appearances at the British Open.
