Lydia Ko gets her first car

Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko has her first car.

After putting on driving lessons on the golf course the last three years, Ko will get a chance to take her skills onto the road following an endorsement deal with luxury carmaker Lexus. Ko has her US learner's permit.

"My first car!!!!!! So excited to receive this amazing 2016 Lexus RC F Sports Coupe! A big thank you to my new sponsor @lexususa !!!#lexusrcf #nowIcandrive #gotmylearnerspermit," the world number one posted on Instagram.

The 2016 Lexus RC F Sports Coupe is worth around NZ$165,000, has a maximum speed of 270 km/h and can reach zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

Ko will have some time to test drive the new car after skipping this week's first event of the LPGA Tour season for scheduling reasons.

Ko is skipping the tournament in the Bahamas and will start her year the next week in Florida.

The world number one will then head home to defend her title at the New Zealand Open before competing in the Australian Open.
