If Rory McIlroy thought he had problems with consistency, he really should spare a thought for Oliver Smith of Ashton on Mersey Golf Club.
McIlroy is struggling to make the most of his imperious driving because of some wild approach play, which resulted in another disappointing major at last week's US PGA Championship.
But that is nothing compared with what Smith went through at the same time 9,910 miles away at the PGA Assistants' Championship at Coxmoor Golf Club in Nottinghamshire.
Smith produced what might well be the wildest scorecard in the history of professional golf during his first round.
