Michael Hendry has officially secured his place in the Open Championship for the second year in a row by finishing tied second at the Gateway to the Open, Mizuno Open this evening.
After finishing inside the required top four, he can officially book his flights to the worlds biggest stage which will be played at Carnoustie in July.
This is the exact same event where Hendry qualified for The Open in 2017 which shows he clearly has a love affair with the Royal Golf Club.
Conditions were challenging throughout the final two rounds with wind playing a huge part and pushing the field backwards. The event became a battle of survival, much like it will be at the 147th Open Championship, with Hendry signing for matching weekend rounds of two-over par.
As the 2017 New Zealand Open Champion stood on the 72nd tee, he only needed a bogey at worst to secure his place at Carnoustie and he needed every shot as he held on to finish runner-up once again and on the exact number (even-par).
