1930: Bobby Jones wins what is known as the Grand Slam, which at the time consists of the US Open and the British Open.
1935: Gene Sarazen's 'Shot heard round the world,' a double-eagle from the fairway on the 69th hole of the Masters, helps him catch Craig Wood and force a 36-hole playoff. Sarazen wins the playoff.
1940: Jack Nicklaus: Born January 21 in Columbus, Ohio. Known as the golden bear and holder of the record for most wins in a major championship.
Nicklaus once said:" I never went into a tournament or round of golf thinking I had to beat a certain player.
" I had to beat the golf course. If I prepared myself for a major, went in focused, and then beat the golf course, the rest took care of itself."
1950: Entertainer Bing Crosby enters the British Amateur Championships but loses in the first round. Jimmy Demaret is the first three-time winner of the Masters.
1955: The British open is televised for the first time on the BBC.
1960: Arnold Palmer claims eight PGA tour events, including the US Open.
1968: Julius Boros aged 48, wins the PGA Championship becoming the oldest player to win a major.
1985: Berhard Langer becomes the first German to win a major championship after beating out the competition in The Masters.
1990: Hale Irwin, aged 45, becomes the oldest event winner of the US Open.
1996: Tiger Woods turns pro, wins two PGA Tour events and is named rookie of the year.
2000: 100th anniversary of the US Open. Tiger Woods wins the US Open, the British Open and PGA Championship.
2008: Woods wins the US Open, ending a six year drought.
