Young New Zealand golfers Clarke Osborne and Richard Squire have kept alive their dream of playing in the British Open at St Andrews this month.
The professionals have qualified from yesterday's regional qualifying tournaments in England and will progress to the final local qualifying tournaments this weekend. Squire, from Hastings, topped the qualifiers with an even-par 72 in one of 12 regional qualifiers in Nottinghamshire, with Osborne also making it through with a four-over 76.
US Open champion Michael Campbell and David Smail are the only New Zealanders confirmed in the Open field at this stage.
