KEY POINTS:
World No 5-ranked amateur Danny Lee heads a 10-strong New Zealand squad to prepare for the men's and women's golf world teams championships in Adelaide in October.
New Zealand Golf has selected two five-strong squads to prepare for the Eisenhower trophy and Espirito Santo Trophy and events, with the three-strong teams to be picked next month.
"The purpose of the preliminary selection is to identify a larger group of players from which the final team will be named," NZG high performance manager David Graham said.
Lee, who finished seventh in his latest tournament in the United States and narrowly missed qualifying for the British Open, is selected with James Gill, who has been on scholarship at St Andrews University in Scotland this year and made it through to the first round of matchplay at the North and South Amateur at Pinehurst No 2 in the US last week.
They are joined by Nick Gillespie, runnerup in the South Island championship, who is also playing on the US amateur circuit.
The men's squad also includes Jared Pender and Sean Riordan, who this year finished second in the Saujana Amateur and seventh in the Malaysian amateur.
The women's squad include two US-based players in Cathryn Bristow and Natasha Krishna.
Bristow, on scholarship at the University of Oregon, finished fifth at the recent Queen Sirikit Cup Asia Pacific event while Krishna, studying at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, was runnerup in the individual standings at the same event two years ago.
Leading the New Zealand-based players in the squad are national amateur champion Dana Kim and fellow internationals Penny Smith and Zoe-Beth Brake.
The women's squad will compete in the South Australian strokeplay championships this month in Adelaide on the same course to be used for the Espirito Santo event.
