Golf: Waikato top semifinalist in men's interprovincials

Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Manawatu-Wanganui and Canterbury are through to the semifinals of the men's interprovincial golf championships.

Waikato are the top qualifiers after they beat Bay of Plenty three and two on Friday, and will play hosts Canterbury.

Second-ranked Bay of Plenty face Manawatu-Wanganui in the other semifinal.

Meanwhile, the United States has grabbed a handy three-point advantage over Europe after two days of the Presidents Cup in South Africa.

The US team started the day a point in arrears, but drew level at five and a half points all after winning three of the five morning foursomes rounds.

And the US then wrested control off the Europeans with victories in four of the five afternoon fourball contests, to lead nine and a half to six and a half with two days to play.
