Bradley Heaven showed he is ready for a tilt at collegiate golf in the United States with a four-shot win in the Anniversary Tournament at Akarana yesterday.
The 19-year-old from Remuera had rounds of 72, 71 and 71 for a one-over 54-hole of 214.
On the final round his nearest challenger was Arran Bartrum of Manukau, who went eagle, birdie, birdie, par, birdie from the ninth hole to draw within one shot.
But on the 15th he missed the green and three-putted for a six. He three-putted the next for bogey and his challenge stalled.
Third was Logan Holzer of the Grange, who had led the field with par rounds in the first two rounds.
Heaven was steadiness personified in conditions which covered four seasons, with fierce winds, rain and hot sun.
A national representative at senior and junior level, he has been offered scholarships by four American universities: the University of Toledo, San Diego State, USC and Louisiana.
"The University of Toledo in Ohio are going to fly me over in April to have a look and I'll make my mind up at the end of that month," he said.
"The good thing is they're all offering full four-year scholarships. I've talked with Greg Turner and Brett Steven, who went through the system, and they have really encouraged me."
Heaven has completed the first year of a business studies course at Massey University, Albany, and is keen to continue that in the United States.
