KEY POINTS:
TULSA, Oklahoma - Overnight leader Graeme Storm of Britain slumped to a six-over-par 76 at the US PGA Championship on Saturday (NZ time) after a roller-coaster second round at steamy Southern Hills.
The unheralded Storm, whose opening 65 earned a two-stroke lead over American John Daly, had eight bogeys, one double-bogey, four birdies and five pars to finish on one-over 141.
"I didn't get the run of the ball I did yesterday," the 29-year-old Englishman told reporters.
"Everything went my way yesterday and everything that could go wrong went wrong today."
Storm said he did not sleep too well before having to hit the opening shot of the second round.
"I didn't get much sleep," he said. "I went to sleep at 10 p.m. and woke up about 2 a.m. and it was on and off after that.
"I think I was worried about missing my alarm call, which I don't normally think about, but when you're leading a major it's slightly different."
Storm, ranked 128th in the world, rallied after back-to-back bogeys from the second with birdies at the fourth and fifth.
He then lost six strokes to par over the last 12 holes to slide down the leaderboard.
"It was frustrating," said Storm. "It's just one of those things.
"If I missed the green I was on the wrong side of the pin. If I missed a fairway I was always penalised. I was probably more aggressive than I should have been."
But Storm said he was still within striking distance and hoped to take a few positives from his disappointing round.
"I hope to have a good weekend because I am not far away from the leaders," he said.
"I will just have to take it on the chin and come back fighting tomorrow."
