New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell had a rollercoaster ride in the first round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational golf championship in Akron, Ohio, on Friday (NZtime).
Campbell is in a tie for 21st position after shooting a one-over par 71 at the Firestone Country Club.
The 2005 US Open champion, fired three birdies and a bogey to be one-under par after nine holes.
But he returned a mixed bag on his second nine, with two bogeys and two birdies.
American Hunter Mahan, Britain's Paul Casey and South African Rory Sabbatini grabbed a share of the lead after each shooting three-under par 67s.
World No 1 Tiger Woods is one shot behind in a group containing fellow Americans Mark Calcavecchia, Aaron Oberholser and Boo Weekley, plus Australian Stuart Appleby and England's Lee Westwood.
