Auckland golfer Stuart Reese slipped backward but stayed in the lead after the second round of the $50,000 New Zealand PGA Senior Championship near Taupo yesterday.
The overnight leader after shooting a three-under 69 at Wairakei International on Thursday, the Peninsula club professional could do no better than a 75 yesterday.
That left him on even par 144 with one round remaining of the 54-hole championship and sharing the lead with Australian Terry Gale, who shot his second successive 72.
Two shots behind the leading pair are Australians Kyle Francis and David Good, who posted 73 and 76, while Simon Owens of New Zealand is in a share of fifth on 147 alongside Aussie Brian Jones.
