GUT KADEN, Germany - The first round of the Players Championship of Europe golf tournament was abandoned on Thursday with the Gut Kaden course waterlogged through heavy rain.
None of the players in the 156 field had begun their rounds by 1.40pm local time (11.40am NZT) when the play was called off.
To try to ensure four rounds of play, tournament director David Probyn has made the cut 50, including those tied at that number, instead of the normal cut at 70.
It is the first time a whole day has been lost at a European Tour event since April 30 last year in the second round of the Italian Open.
