Golf: PGA honour for Cambo

US Open champion Michael Campbell was yesterday made a life member of the Professional Golfers Association of New Zealand.

Campbell has completed an outstanding year on the international circuit following up his maiden major victory in June - the first New Zealander to win a major since Sir Bob Charles won the British Open in 1963 - by winning the World Matchplay Championship in September.

The 36-year-old finished third-equal yesterday in the Target World Challenge in California.

Campbell has been a member of the PGA since turning professional in 1993.

Joining him yesterday as a life member was Dennis Clark, who has been a member of the PGA since 1963, joining when he was 15.

Three years later he hit the world circuit as a professional, competing mostly in Europe.

Clark was a five-time member of the New Zealand World Cup team and has also served on the PGA board in various stints over 30 years.
